Score!
only 14 hours and 40 minutes in the office today! go me! and we even managed to fit in a pizza break. you know its bad when the close protection officers - who are tasked with potentially laying down their lives for my boss and various other internationals - think you have a worse job than they do....
but, lots and lots got done today. and then undone. and redone in a different way that someone else wanted (repeat times 10). then completely scrapped and madly re-pieced together at 2100hrs when no one else was in the office so could not consult on anything.
tomorrow morning should be fun.
today was an odd day. i think we were all expecting a little more to happen because of the conference. but there were only a few protests - all very peaceful. it makes it a little more difficult to find a bad guy here sometimes. especially when you read articles like this: http://www.guardian.co.uk/israel/Story/0,,2217567,00.html its about the third time i've read it today, and i've sent it to tonnes and tonnes of people. it still just about makes me cry everytime i read through it.
oh, the french diplomats are home. longest working hours of any frenchmen i know!
anyway, it was a long, long day. and even more tiring because we all kept waiting for the shit to hit the fan.
although i did have some funny conversations. we're supposed to be hosting an EU HoM (European Union Heads of Mission) meeting on Thursday, but with Erez being open at funny hours, and the crossing being all torn up by the tanks it might no happen. which is lame because i have put in lots of work on this. but anyone i am calling the guy i coordinate with. 0730 - when most people in the oPt start work, 0800, 0830, 0900, 0930 still no answer on any number for the entire office! nothing! finally 0935 i roust someone, but my contacts not in, please have him phone me asap. we finally got ahold of each other at about 0945. i explained the situation, the hours, the ground the need for different cars etc. All i get in response? 'i haven't even had my coffee yet this morning!' all in a good natured manner. thats when i realised that we really do work.
and my flat is cold. apparently the ac can be turned into heat. but i cannot figure it out for the life of me. one of the guys i work with volunteered to take a look at it. but i keep coming home at such ridiculous hours that i cannot call him to ask him to come over and fix it. guess i'll freeze until thursday when i should come home early-ish!
alright, off to bed for me. long day ahead tomorrow, and these horrible bags under my eyes just keep getting bigger!!
